Silver necklaces are often worn for special occasions such as weddings and frequently have been passed down generation to generation. Over time they lose luster from ordinary wear and improper storage and need cleaning. There are many cleaning methods but some can actually damage delicate silver surfaces. Care should be used in routinely cleaning away traces of perspiration, cosmetics and hairspray, so that the silver tiffany necklace retains its original beauty.
Steps to Cleaning you Silver Chain:
1.Using a toothbrush and white toothpaste, scrub your necklace thoroughly. Rinse the chain in warm water and rub it with a gentle cloth.
2.Make a cleaning paste of three parts baking soda to one part water. Thoroughly scrub the necklace, rinse with warm water and polish. Alternatively, you can soak the necklace for five minutes in a bowl of water in which you have sprinkled baking soda.
3.Put a sheet of aluminum foil, your necklace, and a few inches of water in a pan or a dish. Add 2 tsp. of baking soda. Boil for about 5 minutes. Remove and rinse the necklace. Buff it until shiny with your cleaning cloth.
4.Use a brush or soft cloth to apply silver polish to your tiffany necklaces. Follow the instructions on the polish.
